I’m sitting in the parking lot at SLC waiting for my flight and reading the ski news from Indy pass. My HOT TAKE… The Indy Pass and its founder Eric Mogensen are the most consequential story in skiing this past decade.
This morning’s news about Smugglers’ Notch doesn’t just add another mountain. It sharpens Indy’s role as a real alternative, not a novelty.
First, I love the big corporate passes. I buy them and I use them. The scale, the lifts, the snowmaking, the capital—those things matter.
But Eric’s work proves that scale isn’t the only way forward.
Indy gives skiers choice, price flexibility, and a tangible way to keep independent mountains alive.
That balance—corporate muscle and indie heart—that’s how skiing stays whole.
I’m more excited about this sport than I’ve ever been, and a real part of that is what Eric, Indy, and places like Black Mountain are doing.
Let’s goooooooo!
